Cinderella pumpkin

This is my first year growing pumpkins. These are Rouge Vif D’Etampes Pumpkins (aka Cinderella pumpkins). They are supposed to grow up to 30 pounds. I took my kitchen scale outside to see how this one was coming along, and it was off the scale. The scale only goes up to six pounds, though. It’s about ten inches wide at its widest point.

These are creasy greens. They’re growing under the orange tree out back — under the outer edges of its canopy. They taste peppery and spicy.

I bought the seeds from Bountiful Gardens.

I planted all of my tomatoes from seed this year. I have between twenty and thirty plants growing. I thought I would remember which seeds I planted where. Next year I am going to mark them.

Katydid front

This looks like it might be a young katydid. (Larger image)

It is standing on a California wild rose in my back yard. (Larger image)
