The problem with the high road
Friday, December 11th, 2009Can everyone be on the high road at the same time?
Does anyone like hearing that another person is taking the high road with them?
Does anyone ever decide to take the low road?

Don’t take the high road. Take the road. The road you are looking for can’t be found by taking cues from the people walking around you, whether you are taking a higher road than they are on, or whether you are walking at their level. The road doesn’t change based on where anyone else is walking. No high road is ever high enough or authentic enough be the real road.
Don’t act better than anyone else. Act like yourself. Act from that quiet, centered, adult place inside of you that loves you, that protects you, and that shows you what to do. Live up to your own expectations. Sense your true place in the world, and take up space. Feel your connections and consider the rippling effects of what you do. Create a life that you are proud of. You are accountable for all you do, forever, regardless of what happens around you. Trust yourself deeply. That quiet light inside you is your only guiding light. No one inside or outside of your family can tell you where you should go or how you should be better than that light can. Follow it.
