Two Saturdays ago, we went to learn how to shoot bows and arrows in the Arroyo Seco, near the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl is surrounded by park spaces and wild-ish spaces. Native oaks grow all around it.  Just past the grass in this picture is a concrete channel for the river that flows through this area.

The Pasadena Roving Archers give lessons to newbies. And they lend out bows and arrows. Here I am waiting to learn. I have a quiver strapped to my jeans pocket.

We practiced shooting paper targets fastened to straw bales.

And we enjoyed the clean, cold early Saturday morning air.

Me: I have an idea.

Gavin: Hunh?

Me: I think we should hook up one of our bikes to power a laptop for web surfing. I think that would be really good.

Gavin: Hunh.

Me: What?

Gavin: I think you and I might have different ideas about what really good is….

I’d like to live right by the lake. There’s so much water there, and there are so many green things growing.

I like all of the new construction. I like how the coffee shops are full of people in the tech industry. I like the walkable downtown. I like the shops, especially promesse. I like Bombaii Cutters, where I got my first very short haircut. I like the restaurants, especially Trellis. I like the cocktails at The Slip.
